Is your hot shower helping to grow mold?

Does your bathroom have a fan in it? Do you use it? Most people think this fan is for exhausting odors, but it actually provides a much more valuable service and saves money. The actual reason to require ventilation systems, especially in bathrooms, is to prevent a buildup of moisture. Hot showers create steam and a build of moisture on sheetrock. This repetitive cycle of steam and dew point on cold surfaces can be a source for mold growth.
What can you do about it? If you already have mold because of this issue you can call us to mitigate the mold. Use an antifungal paint, it is more expensive than paint used elsewhere in the home, but in the long run you will be glad that you did. Hard wire the exhaust fan to the light switch. That way it comes on every time you turn on the light, weather you use it for showers or not.
One other thing be sure to the fan is operating at peak performance. If it is squeaking or loud or otherwise sounds strange clean it or replace it. You certainly would not want it to be a concern for starting a fire.
